Founder & President

Woodland Venture Management raises and invests private equity in parts of the country that are underserved by the nation's financial industry.  Woodland has become one of the nation's leading sources of capital in the Midwest and central Appalachia.  In this capacity, David founded Adena Ventures, a venture capital fund targeting central Appalachia, which includes the southeastern Ohio area in which he was raised.  Wilhelm is a fund partner and member of its investment committee.  Wilhelm also founded Hopewell Ventures, which brings investment dollars to entrepreneurs in the nations' heartland, specifically a seven-state region stretching from Ohio to Nebraska.

Appointed in 1993, David became the youngest ever Chair of the Democratic National Committee.

Political Consulting

David is best known for his political work, which has included managing election campaigns for President Bill Clinton, Senator Paul Simon, Senator Joe Biden, and Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. 


David holds a B.A. in Government from Ohio University and a M.P.P.(Public Policy) from Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government, and served as Chair of the Ohio University National Alumni Board. He has been appointed Chair of the Applied Politics Department at the University of Akron's Bliss Instiute.
